Ten thousand rural students assembled on the occasion of
National Education Day organized by ERDF
An unique four days extravaganza “Talent Fest-2014” was
organized by ERD Foundation at Central Public School,
Patharkandi in the Karimganj district to give the much needed
exposure for the school students of greater Barak Valley. The
event was organized from 11th to 14th November on the occasion
of National Education Day which was commemorated to mark the
birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first
Education Minister of India. The event concluded with the
celebration of Childrens’ Day, the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru.
More than ten thousand students joined the Fest from nearby one
hundred schools of the valley.
The inaugural session was graced by Dr. N. V. Deshpande,
Director of NIT, Silchar; Dr. P.G. Rao, Vice Chancellor of
University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya; Principals of all
Colleges and Schools of Barak Valley and other eminent
academicians of the region. In his enlightening speech, Dr.
Deshpande urged the students to be more inclined towards science
and innovation for the overall growth of the nation. He assured
full support and collaboration from NIT, Silchar to the schools
run by ERDF at Barak valley. Also, the great contributions of
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad towards the education system of India
were recalled on the occasion as he was the main architect of
UGC and IITs.
During the inauguration ceremony, the first ever “ERDF Rocket
Shuttle” promoted by CPS students with the help of Academy
of Aero Modelling & Robotics was also launched.
The main attraction of the Fest was the Science Model Exhibition
where around one hundred twenty numbers of models on different
interesting topics of Science were demonstrated by the students
of Central Public School. The best model adjudged was
“Conversion of CO2 to O2” demonstrated by the students of
Central Public School, Badarpur. Other competitions like Quiz,
Debate, Extempore Speech, Painting, Wall Paper presentation and
Recitation were participated by the students of all the Schools
of Barak Valley. The topic of the debate was “Use of Internet,
Mobile and other electronic equipments, is a threat to the
School Students”. The best debator award was begged by Pratik
Shikhawat of Central Public School, Patharkandi speaking for the
motion of the topic. Attractive prizes of Laptop, ipad and cash
awards were distributed to the winners.
The concept of Talent Fest was conceptualized by Mr. Mahbubul
Hoque, Chairman of ERD Foundation which will be organized every
year as an annual event. Mr. Hoque believes that the students of
Barak valley are very much brilliant but they are not properly
guided. This fest was an approach to promote education specially
Science education and to motivate the young talents of the
region towards Science & Technology.
